The Women’s Resource Centre in the UNC building was entered and vandalized on Thursday, the 29th of March between one and two o’clock in the afternoon. The contents of desk drawers and part of a shelf unit were scattered around the room, including thumbtacks strewn across the floor. A cash box was stolen, holding a float amount of “probably less that twenty dollars,” according to Tiffany, a student and volunteer at the centre, and the one who discovered the vandalism. Money from the recent Vagina Monologues ticket sales had already been deposited in the bank.
The Pride Resource Centre immediately next door had about five or six people in it at any one time during the hour in question, but nothing out of the ordinary was heard or seen. The door to the WRC is sometimes seen left open when the room is empty for short periods of time, but it is unknown if this was the case in this situation.
Security was called upon discovery of the vandalism at around 2 PM, and police arrived half an hour later.
Security camera footage from the hallway outside the door is being reviewed. A similar incident occurred on Monday, but it is unknown if the two incidents are linked.
