Nomination Period now open for 2017 UBCSUO Election

This year’s nomination period is now open for the upcoming UBCSUO election. There are 17 positions in total to run for, including the role of president, four vice president positions, eight faculty representatives and four directors at large. Nomination forms can be picked up at the Students’ Union desk. We’ve broken down each role and their responsibilities, as well as outlined the important upcoming dates for all things election!
The President chairs all the Board of Director meetings and General Meetings, as well as acts as a liaison between the Students’ Union and the General Manager. They handle public relations for the Students’ Union and assist with the strategic development of the office as a whole.
This individual is responsible for maintaining services for the student body, and any matters relating to events or initiatives put on by members of the Students’ Union.
This is the person who chairs the policy committee, and fields any complaints or issues brought up by members of the Students’ Union. They work alongside clubs and course unions to promote events and ensure that individuals abide by the bylaws, constitution, and regulations.
VP Finances and Operations
This person oversees and coordinates the budget for the Students’ Union. They work alongside the General Manager to ensure long-term financial stability as well as maintain the books and prepare financial summaries as needed by different committees.
The VP External has the responsibilities of coordinating with external organizations and organizing external advocacy events. They are meant to act as a liaison between UBC’s Equity and Inclusion Officer and the Students’ Union, and lobby with local, provincial, or federal governments to further student initiatives.
Director at Large and Faculty Representative
These members of the Board of Directors function as the management, administration, and control over all things Students’ Union by meeting throughout the year and making decisions that benefit the student body based on finances, meeting issues, appointing members, and other subjects that might come up based on the bylaws.

Thursday, February 9th, 9 am: deadline for nomination forms
Thursday, February 9th: mandatory candidate meeting for successful nominees (time, location TBD)
Monday, February 20 – Tuesday, February 28: Campaign Period
Wednesday, March 1 – Thursday, March 2, 9 am – 4 pm: Voting Days, location TBD
