Sovereign Acts: November 30, 2019 – March 1, 2020

Wanda Nanibush is a guest curator at the Kelowna Art Gallery and has collected a showcase of photography, video, and installation-based works by various Indigenous artists. Rebecca Belmore, Lori Blondeau, Dayna Danger, Robert Houle, James Luna, Shelley Niro, Adrian Stimson, and Jeff Thomas are the artists represented in this showcase. This touring exhibition is curated by Wanda Nanibush and is organized by the Art Museum at the University of Toronto with financial support from the Ontario Arts Council and Canada Council for the Arts.

Experiment in F# Minor: January 18 – March 15, 2020

This experimental exhibition by Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller consists of a large array of various conical speakers set on a large table. The light and shadow variations caused by the observer moving around the exhibition space modulates the various instrumental tracks played by the speakers. Experiment in F# Minor is part of the Living Things Festival.

Creative Growth Centre for Spiritual Nourishment: October 19, 2019 – May 2020

The Rotary Courtyard Gallery of the Kelowna Art Gallery is currently housing the Creative Growth Centre for Spiritual Nourishment. This immersive installation by UBC Okanagan BFA graduates Lucas and Mat Glenn explores the “dreams of startup and DIY culture and questions the actual sustainability of such ideas”. Viewers are free to walk around and observe the self-contained installation.

Small things left behind: January 22 – June 2020

This is a new exhibition at the Satellite Space at the Kelowna International Airport, which houses rotating pieces throughout the year. Small things left behind by Katherine Pickering is a collection of paintings on geometric consoles which overlap one another. Pattern, colour and geometry are common motifs of this piece. Katherine Pickering, who now lives in Kelowna, is an MFA graduate from Concordia University who has had teaching stints at both Concordia University and the University of British Columbia.

Members’ Exhibition: Stories: November 9, 2019 – February 23, 2020

The Members’ Exhibition is an annual exhibition curated from the members of the Kelowna Art Gallery. It is a yearly recognition of the contributions of the members to the community. This year’s Members’ Exhibition explores stories or narratives in art via various different mediums. Painting, drawing, mixed media, photography, printmaking, sculpture and video are all represented forms in this exhibition.
